In his science project, 10-year-old Wynn Brower of Indiana showed that turning off his family's four computers would save $1 per day. That may not sound like much, but it adds up over a year's time.
Wynn then took his findings to the local county council and demonstrated that they could save $25,000 per year by turning off their 550 computers every night. Read the story here.

Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency: Calculate fuel costs in liters or gallons, per mile or kilometer
Going on a car trip? At the AAA website, calculate your fuel costs based on current gas prices and your car's model and year.
