Find bargains in misspellings

Next time you're looking for items on eBay or Craigslist, check for misspelled items as well.

Sometimes these misspelled items go unsold because they don't show up in the search results. For example, if you're looking for an iPod on eBay, you may miss an "i0od" for sale, which is the same thing, except that the seller accidentally hit the key above the p when listing it.

Here are a couple of tools to generate misspellings and search eBay and craigslist:

TypoBuddy - eBay and craigslist. Has advanced search options, as shown in the screenshot below.

FatFingers - ebay only. Has advanced search options.

Auction bloopers - eBay only. But the results automatically open an eBay page with all the misspellings.

Typjoe.com is another ebay misspelling search tool you may want to try.

Ebuyersedge.com is as well, but it has the added feature of saving searches of your choice and emailing you when an item is listed on ebay matching any of your saved searches.

The original misspelling search tool at http://www.bargainchecker.com is probably the best to use, it has advanced options and show's your search results in the same window - no annoying pop-ups.

There are plenty of eBay misspelling sites out there but the number of items that they find varies widely as does the number of features that they offer.

In my opinion the best one is Missing-Auctions.com (http://www.missing-auctions.com) which not only searches eBay (as you'd expect) but also has a free eBook which explains how to find misspelled items, value them and then relist them correctly in order to make a profit.

And if you're stuck for ideas of things to search for, it's got that covered too with weekly lists of commonly misspelled brand names sent out by email.

The design is pretty poor but the features more than make up for it !
